Does anyone else like to work on the floor?

Look at me! I am so happy that I picked up a new pair of wire cutters that I just had to take a picture! I love them! They have a fancy compound action to make it easier on my hands to cut. I make hundreds of wire loops for my jewelry pieces, and some times it is quite a chore. I find the high temp wire to be really dense and hard on my hands. Did I say I was happy about my fancy new tool?
I am firing my kiln today :-) While I was sorting my beads and choosing colors, I realized how often I find myself working on the floor. I don't know, I guess I just like to spread out. I pile everything around me and grab this or that from in front or behind or over here or there.
Does anyone else like to work on the floor? I may be a little bit "different" but at least I get excited about my work ;-)
I hope you are having a great weekend!

  1. I almost always photograph my pieces on the floor. I generally work on my jewelry while sitting on the couch. When I'm putting together a bead mix or working out what components I want to use for something, I spread it all out there. I don't have a desk/table area for my work because I think that's too confining. I don't create on the floor, but I do understand the need to spread out like that.

  3. I do that... and I always thought I'm the only one ;)

The greatest advantage is that it forces me to put everything neatly away when I'm done - a worktable would be chaos after two days at most!

  4. The floor... (smiles thoughtfully...) Let me guess - you dont have dogs! When I saw your post I had a flash of me working on the floor - then 2 45 lb canines scampered in. One is calm and would gingerly tiptoe around my piles, the other is a whirling dervish...Sigh...their dogbeds take up 1/2 the studio floor space. Wouldnt have it any other way!

  5. Hmmm, Maybe I just spread out where ever I happen to be. Because I can recall: spreading out on the couch, desk, floor, coffee table.... Maybe keeping it all in is the challenge :-)

Jenny-- It is good that our dog came to us with impeccable manners, because I don't think I could have taught him to be as considerate as he is. He is just content to sit nearby and enjoy me being close to his level.
