Buttons-- A question?

I have been trying to collect an inventory of buttons these past few months.  I have been trying to make a few more in each firing.  I recently signed up for Michele Mach's Button Swap and found out that my partner is Shannon (ForMySweetDaughter)....

I have a question for you-- I would love to know your opinion.  DO you think that I should add buttons to my trunk shows in Bead Shops?  Or should I keep them separate and offer them to knitting and sewing shops?

  1. I'd take them with you to shows in Bead shops if I were you. I've just started adding buttons to my range of clay goodies and I'm finding that jewellery makers are very open to using them in their work.

Buttons have a good wide appeal, with art buttons being of interest to scrapbookers, beaders, card makers, quilters, knitters etc.

Good luck iwth thehm - the ones in your picture have a lovely earthy look to them.

  2. If I saw them at a bead/trunk show, I would def stop and take a look. I'm not a seamstress or knitter by any means, but I adore using buttons in my jewelry. Do it!

  3. They are lovely! I use buttons in my jewellery and love sourcing handmade buttons. I would definitely buy some and would love brighter colours if you can make them.

  5. I love using vintage and handmade buttons for closures in my jewelry. I prefer shank buttons for this purpose, if that is any help.

  6. Hi, just dropping in from Painting with Fire. Love your buttons! Buttons go with everything, pillows, curtains, clothing, jewelry, etc. Put those beautiful buttons everywhere. We all have a different use. In fact, I just finished some curtains in my studio and I am looking for the right accent to the pleats. I thought I would do covered buttons, but now I am rethinking this seeing your clay buttons.

  7. Go for it (adding them to bead shops). I wouldn't do a ton, but many people use buttons in their jewelry creations too.

  8. They are always good to have on hand. There is always at least one person at every show I do that asks if I have buttons. I don't always put mine out but I do have some just in case. It can't hurt. :)

  9. I agree you should go for it. Start with smallish numbers and see what sells and what doesn't. If you have a pile buttons left - at least you will know! I use a lot of buttons in my jewelry, actually, though I tend to shy away from shank buttons. They flop around a bit too much for me, lol;)

  10. Well, I can't say adding other than what everyone else have already said. Buttons are so versatile they can be used in many crafts. I use buttons in my jewellery. Not that often, but I do use them. As clasps, pendants, connectors etc depending on size and shape.

Some beaders like buttons, others don't like them at all. Still a few would probably like and use them if they knew what to do with them, they just lack inspiration. I'd guess you'll find beaders attracted to your buttons at the trunk shows. So why not give it a try? Starting small to see what the demand is like, as Summer said, sound like a good idea.

  12. I'd say you should add them. Beaders love buttons almost as much as knitters do ;)

  13. Take them to shows! I've seen so many wonderful creations with buttons in jewelry.

If only I could unblock my brain from using them myself! I also joined Michelle's swap, hoping to force myself to figure out how to use them!
